Roll-N-Lock XT Electric Retractable Tonneau Cover

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

We engineered the Roll-N-Lock XT tonneau cover to deliver one-touch bed access without sacrificing security or weather protection. This electric retractable system stores completely inside a front-of-bed canister, leaving your entire truck bed open when you need it.

The cover's motorized operation retracts or extends the full-length aluminum slat assembly with a single press — no manual rolling, no wrestling with panels in parking lots or jobsites. Aircraft-grade aluminum slats lock automatically at any position, so you can secure partial loads or retract fully for oversized cargo. The XT's low-profile canister sits flush against the bulkhead, preserving tie-down access and maintaining your truck's factory bed dimensions.

Every XT cover installs with clamp-on rails — no drilling into your bed. We pair the aluminum slat curtain with continuous weather seals along the side rails and tailgate, keeping rain, snow, and road spray out of your gear. The system integrates with your truck's factory key fob on most models, letting you open or close the cover remotely before you reach the tailgate.

Electric motor & control module

The XT’s motor assembly mounts inside the front canister and draws power from your truck’s 12V battery through a plug-and-play harness. We include a waterproof inline fuse and relay module that integrates with your existing electrical system — most installations connect to the third brake light circuit or an auxiliary power point.

You operate the cover using a dash-mounted rocker switch, your factory key fob (on compatible models), or the optional smartphone app. The motor’s torque-sensing clutch automatically stops if it encounters an obstruction, preventing damage to the slats or canister. Retraction speed is constant at roughly two inches per second, and the system draws less than 15 amps during operation.

Slat design & load capacity
Sizing & fit

Slat design & load capacity

Aluminum slat construction

Each slat measures 1.5 inches wide and spans the full width of your bed, interlocking with the next slat through a continuous hinge rail. We extrude the slats from 6000-series aluminum, then powder-coat them to resist UV fade and corrosion. The slat curtain flexes slightly when retracting around the canister drum, but locks rigid when extended — the same design principle our manual covers have used since 1999.

Weight distribution

The closed XT cover supports up to 300 pounds of evenly distributed weight. That’s enough for light cargo nets, tool bags, or a roof-top tent’s rear overhang (on compatible setups). Avoid point loads — standing directly on a single slat or stacking heavy equipment in one spot can bend the aluminum. For snow load in winter climates, clear accumulations over six inches to stay within the rated capacity.

Styling

Installation & truck compatibility

We design XT covers to fit specific truck makes, models, and bed lengths. Each kit includes pre-cut side rails that clamp onto your bed’s stake pocket anchors — the entire install takes 60-90 minutes with basic hand tools and no permanent modifications.

The canister’s depth varies by truck model (typically 13-15 inches), and our engineering team ensures it clears factory bed liners, spray-in coatings, and drop-in mats. If you run an aftermarket bedliner with tall side walls, measure the clearance between your bulkhead and the liner’s front edge — you need at least 14 inches of unobstructed space for the canister.

One-button access is a game changer
I installed the XT on my F-150 last month and it's completely changed how I use the truck. Being able to open the cover from inside the cab before I even get out saves time on every jobsite stop. The motor is smooth and quiet — my crew didn't even notice it was electric until I showed them.

Holds up in Colorado winters
We get heavy snow here and the XT handles it fine. I clear off anything over four or five inches just to be safe, but the slats don't sag or ice up like my old soft cover did. The seals keep road salt and slush out of the bed even on slushy highway drives.

Install was easier than I expected
I'm not a mechanic but I got this on my Ram 1500 in about an hour and a half. The clamps are solid and the wiring harness plugged right into my third brake light. No drilling, no permanent changes to the bed. Instructions were clear with good diagrams.

Great cover, minor learning curve on the app
The cover itself is fantastic — smooth operation, solid build, looks clean on the truck. The smartphone app took a bit to pair the first time, but once connected it works every time. Being able to check if the cover is closed from my phone gives me peace of mind.

Worth the upgrade from manual
I had a manual roll cover on my last truck and thought the electric was just a luxury. After six months with the XT I'd never go back. Loading and unloading is so much faster when you don't have to wrestle with the cover, especially in rain or when your hands are full.

Key fob integration is seamless
My Silverado's factory fob controls the XT with zero lag. I unlock the tailgate and pop the cover open in one motion. The dealer who did my install said this was the cleanest retractable system they've worked with — no weird adapters or spliced wires.

Good to know

Common questions about the Roll-N-Lock XT

The XT's motor retracts or extends the full slat curtain in approximately 25-30 seconds depending on your bed length. Short beds (5.5-6 feet) complete the cycle closer to 25 seconds, while long beds (8 feet) take the full 30 seconds. The motor maintains constant speed throughout the operation and includes automatic obstruction detection that stops movement if it senses resistance.

Yes. Every XT cover includes a manual override crank stored in the canister's rear end cap. Remove the cap, insert the crank into the motor's hex socket, and turn clockwise to retract or counterclockwise to extend the cover. The manual override bypasses the motor entirely and requires about two minutes of cranking to fully open or close a standard 6.5-foot bed.

The XT is compatible with most factory bed liners, spray-in coatings like LINE-X or Rhino Linings, and drop-in mats. The side rails clamp onto your bed's stake pockets, which sit above the liner surface. You need at least 14 inches of clearance between your bulkhead and any raised liner edges at the front of the bed to accommodate the canister. Measure before ordering if you have an aftermarket liner with tall front or side walls.

Key fob integration works on Ford F-Series (2015+), Ram 1500/2500/3500 (2016+), Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra (2014+), and Toyota Tundra (2014+) equipped with factory cargo management wiring or bed lighting circuits. Base trim models without factory bed lighting require an optional relay module to enable fob control. The dash-mounted rocker switch works on all truck models regardless of fob compatibility.

The closed slat curtain supports up to 300 pounds of evenly distributed weight. This capacity handles light cargo nets, tool bags, or crossover storage, but avoid point loads like standing in one spot or stacking heavy equipment on a single slat. For snow accumulation, clear loads over six inches to prevent exceeding the weight limit and bending the aluminum slats.

The XT provides excellent weather resistance but is not 100% waterproof. The dual-durometer side seals and adjustable tailgate seal block rain, snow, and road spray during normal driving and weather conditions. Our testing simulates highway rain at 70 mph with minimal water intrusion. However, extreme pressure washing, standing water, or prolonged submersion can allow moisture through the canister drain ports. For sensitive cargo, use secondary waterproof containers inside the bed.

Yes. Individual slats are available as replacement parts through our online portal or authorized dealers. To replace a damaged slat, use the manual override crank to position the curtain so the damaged slat is accessible outside the canister. Remove the end caps from both side rails, slide out the damaged slat, and insert the new one. The process takes about 20 minutes per slat and requires no special tools beyond the included hex wrench.
